Week 5
Needle Felting:
During the class you will learn how to use crochet techniques and needle felting. After this you will make your own needle felt pin or figurine. The idea is that you sketch a shape that you want to make and then use needle felting techniques to make it 3D (no bigger than 6cm by 6cm by 6cm).
Submit a blogpost with the ideation sketches and images of what you created.
Finally describe in one paragraph the challenges you faced and how you solved them or could solve them.
This is the doll I made this time. I tried to create Patrick Star with perky buttocks.
Here's my sketch. In the sketch, I envisioned Patrick Star with an entirely pink body, wearing green pants and purple patterns on them. However, during the actual crafting process, I ran out of pink fur and black fur. To maintain the overall appearance, I had to leave his body white and use stick-on eyes.
The most challenging part was figuring out how to shape the form from a clump of fur. My approach was to first stab vigorously with a needle to outline a rough border, flatten and compact it. This allowed me to work inward with the remaining material while preserving the shape.
